Yoga Classes

The majority of our Yoga classes here at Focus Fitness are heated to some degree. Studio A, which holds most of our All Level and Advanced classes, is usually heated to approximately 90-95 degrees. Studio B, which holds most of our Beginner classes, is usually heated to approximately 80-85 degrees. Yes and Yes+ classes are not heated. BEGINNER CLASSES

Beginner Asana Basics
Whether you've never set (bare) foot in a yoga studio, or you are beginner who is still struggling with downward facing dog, it’s time to give this class a try! You will receive individualized attention to develop body awareness, learn basic yoga postures (asanas) and proper form. Classes feature introduction to standing poses, forward bends, back bends, and finally, combinations and inversions.  The student is best served when taken in conjunction with our Beginner Vinyasa class. Beginner / Intermediate Vinyasa Basics
This class is designed to introduce yogis to the basics of Vinyasa yoga. Great for those looking for a less rigorous alternative to our standard Vinyasa class, and still appropriate for those brand new to yoga!  You will receive individualized attention to gain the flexibility, strength and balance that will prepare you to confidently attend our Open Vinyasa classes in the future. Class will include sequences of postures (asana sequences) that link breath with flowing movement. The student is best served when taken in conjunction with our Beginner Asana class. ALL LEVEL CLASSES

Vinyasa
This athletic flow class improves endurance, strength, and flexibility. Vinyasa is Sanskrit for "Flow." This class flows from one pose to the next with each breath cycle, which strengthens the cardiovascular system and lowers blood pressure. This flow of movement with breath is a meditative approach for the active person to cross-train both body and mind.  75 Minutes; All Levels. Also offered as a condensed lunch-time 60 Minute Vinyasa Hour and an Intermediate/Advanced 90 Minute class.

Ashtanga: The Primary Series
Ashtanga Yoga is an athletic style of Vinyasa yoga made up of series, each series consisting of a set sequence of poses linked together by the breath in a continuous flow. Often described as a moving meditation, this is a vigorous, alignment oriented practice which builds concentration emphasizing strength in equal proportion to flexibility. 75 Minutes, All Levels

Anusara Inspired Yoga
Anusara Yoga (a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “going with the flow,” and “following your heart.” Borrowing from John Friend, founder, this class combines internal Tantric philosophy with external alignment principles. Emphasis is placed on individuality and creativity, whilst attention is paid to attitude, alignment and action.  This class is especially suitable for practitioners seeking to alleviate pain, stress, and emotional blockages. 90 Minutes, All Levels

Yoga Alignment
Correct and Protect! The Alignment class is based on the Hatha principles of alignment. This class will move your body through a sequence of poses in order to improve functional strength, balance, coordination and flexibility. By correcting the details of your poses you will grow stronger and also protect your body from the rigors of your other vigorous activities. This is a wonderful class for students looking to enhance their existing yoga practice or the athletic performance of their preferred sport.  Please note that this class is shoulder injury friendly as we have removed all Chaturangas (push-ups) from this class.  75 Minutes, All Levels

Yin Yang
This
 class is a perfect blend of Yin (30 minutes) and Yang (60 minutes) Yoga. The Yin style of long-held passive poses opens the body to more flexibility and range of motion. This helps to calm the nervous system. The Yang style of Vinyasa will follow the Yin practice strengthening and invigorating the body and mind. This is a particularly interesting place for Vinyasa students to begin to discover a Yin practice and the merits of balancing the yogic work we do on the mat. 90 Minutes, All Levels

YeS Class
One of the most unique offerings at Focus Fitness is the combination "yoga and spinning " class know as the YeS class. It is Allison's signature combination of the intense cardio of indoor cycling, followed by the meditative and restorative element of yoga. The YeS class consists of 30 minutes of spinning and 30 minutes of yoga. 60 Minutes, All Levels

YeS+ Class
Just as fabulous as the YeS class, YeS+ consists of 45 minutes of spinning and 30 minutes of yoga. 75 Minutes, All Levels

 

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED CLASSES

Yoga Rocks
Yoga Rocks is a creative Vinyasa flow set to rock/pop tunes. Geared toward the intermediate or advanced practitioner, this sequence of Vinyasa is different every time as well as the music.  Amy’s class will explore many asanas not offered in our other yoga classes. There will be fun arm balances, challenging balance postures and exhilarating backbends! Get ready to play and learn something new! 90 Minutes, Intermediate/Advanced

Vinyasa (90 Minutes)
Longer, more challenging version of our 75 minute Vinyasa Class.

 

SPECIAL EDITIONS

Sunday Night Candle-Lit Yoga
Give Back, and Donate-What-You-Can.  Enjoy this beautiful and spiritually uplifting Vinyasa class while also practicing the yoga principal of generosity. For this class we accept payment in the form of monetary donations which will go to various philanthropic organizations, as well as non-perishable food goods which will be brought to the Philadelphia food bank. If you have a cause which you are personally tied to, speak to us about having one of the Sunday classes dedicated to your cause.

Family Yoga
This class is designed for the entire gang! Offered once a month, our family yoga class is a wonderful opportunity to connect more fully with your loved ones. Spend a Sunday afternoon together, as a family. Ages 5 and up. 60 Minutes, All Levels

Boys Yoga
This
class is designed specifically for a boy's physical strength, emotional balance and self confidence. Yoga poses, team building activities and self-reflection are key components to help boys develop a strong sense of self-empowerment. 50 Minutes, All Levels

Girls Yoga
Yoga builds self-esteem and self-respect. Girls who practice yoga regularly can increase focus and attention span; develop strong, healthy bodies; learn how to cope with stress; relax and sleep better; respect other people and the world around them, and have a whole lot of fun! It's important to remember that like any physical activity, yoga requires regular practice to be effective. Help your child succeed by attending class regularly. 50 Mintues, All Levels.

Teen Yoga
Our teen yoga class is taught in a bit more progressive manner with appealing music for the teenage population. Be prepared to relax and de-stress! 60 Minutes, All Levels

Preschool Yoga
